Gods, Marvel, & Maui: Making VFX on a Pacific Island

It's safe to say that there's no other VFX vendor in the world quite like capital T, let alone one that is constantly contributing to films like Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther, as well as the critically acclaimed TV series, American Gods. What makes capital T unique is that they’re a two person, husband and wife team, who work from their home office ??" a beach house in Hawaii. You'll be inspired by what 2 people can do, if also a little envious of where they're doing it!

George H.W. Bush Yelled At Me For Making Him Look Bad On TV

In his earlier life as a TV producer, Creative COW's Tim Wilson had a memorable encounter with the 41st President of the United States not long after he left office, while shooting a PR piece for the local news. It's a humorous tale of meeting deadlines, meeting expectations, and meeting a man only months removed from being the leader of the free world. With bonus advice for location shooters, this personal look at George H.W. Bush offers a side of him you probably haven't seen before.

Reimagining Terminator 2's HUDs and Graphics with Adobe XD

Reimagining Terminator 2's HUDs and Graphics with Adobe XD

What looked futuristic for heads-up displays and graphic overlays just a few years ago looks primitive today, which inspired the designers at Territory Studio (responsible for HUD and screen design in Avengers: Infinity War, Blade Runner 2049, The Martian, Guardians of the Galaxy and many more) to ask themselves about new approaches to the future of interface design. The decision to try Adobe XD surprised them, and surprised Adobe too! These kinds of intensely futuristic designs are far from the web and mobile app prototyping that XD was first intended for, but the challenge was too intriguing to pass up. Creative COW Contributing Editor Hillary Lewis takes a look at Territory's creative process, and what it might mean for both moviegoers and software developers in the future.

Face Vocal Band: Giving Rock a Human Voice

Face Vocal Band: Giving Rock a Human Voice

Great music transcends genre. The most memorable songs are able to cross over to different styles seamlessly. They’re timeless because the melodies and lyrics reach people no matter what kind of music they favor. That is the root of Face Vocal Band’s success. The Colorado band has been bringing audiences to their feet for seventeen years, using their uncanny ability to identify rock hits and the masterful talent to turn them into something completely new. When they take the stage, there are no guitars, no drums, no Marshall stacks??"just their voices.

Producer Joel Silver and Director X called on VFX Legion to tackle 100+ shots designed to amp up the impact of the raw violence in Sony’s reboot of the iconic ‘70’s film. Some people think we like 360/VR just because it devours so much storage capacity. Ok that's a good reason but still the good VR stuff is really really good. Not just scare your pants off good but good to experience, enjoy, be immersively entertained, informed.

Star Wars: How Much Is Too Much?

Star Wars: How Much Is Too Much?

When Disney announced that they would be making a new Star Wars movie every year for at least 10 years I was both excited and a bit skeptical. In 2012 when Lucas sold his company to Disney for $4billion, he included his outlines of Episodes VII, VIII and IX. But Disney and Co. decided to discard these stories and start over, also discarding the extended universe of comics and books that millions of SW fans had grown to love. Adding JJ Abrams to the mix was icing on the cake for SW fans who have become critical of SW. But Lawrence Kasdan was the saving grace, who wrote a script for VII that the original actors could get behind. So, how much Star Wars is too much?
